A.K Physio and Sports Injury Clinic is a small, friendly clinic established in 2004 by Abi Kubiak and located in Knutsford since 2011.
We provide a professional service aimed at returning the patient from initial injury back to full function and fitness. We deal with all types of musculoskeletal problems and have a special interest in sports injuries. Being involved in sport and exercise ourselves, we fully understand your desire to get back to your chosen activity/sport as soon as is physically possible.
We offer physiotherapy, sports rehabilitation, acupuncture, kinesiology taping and sports massage – everything you could possibly need to get back to work or sport after an injury.
We treat people of all ages and backgrounds and have had many happy patients over the years (take a look at our testimonials).
Abi Kubiak is the owner and clinical director of A.K Physio and Sports Injury Clinic. She has nearly 20 years of experience working in private practice, having gained a first-class honours degree in Sports Rehabilitation from the University of Salford in 2003, prior to becoming a HCPC Registered Physiotherapist and a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (CSP). Abi also attained a BSc (Hons) in Sport and Exercise Science from Leeds Metropolitan University in 1999. She completed a VTCT Sports Massage Qualification in 2003 and has extensive experience of all types of sports massage. Abi is qualified to administer acupuncture and is a member of the AACP (Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists).
Abi has always had a love of sport and exercise, swimming competitively from a young age as well as being a keen runner, which led her to compete in modern biathlon and subsequently modern triathlon (swimming, running and air pistol shooting) representing the Northwest in the National Finals twice. She has continued to swim and run through the years, competing in numerous run races from 5km up to marathon distance, and in 2010 took part in her first triathlon (this type with the 3rd discipline being cycling not shooting!). She has competed in several triathlons since, completing a half ironman in 2018. She also plays competitive netball and represented Cheshire in her 20’s. When she’s not doing triathlon or netball she is also a keen gym goer. This love of sport was what drove Abi to get involved in this field, as she understands how frustrating it is not to be able to do something you enjoy because of injury or pain and she wanted to help people get back to their desired pasttimes, whether that be a particular sport, keeping fit or a hobby.
Rachael graduated with a first-class honours degree in Sports Therapy from the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan). She holds additional qualifications in sports massage and pre-hospital immediate care in sport level 2 for pitch side first aid.
When she is not here, she works at Preston Grasshoppers Rugby Club, providing pitch-side first aid for their second team. She previously worked within a massage setting, providing sports massage for a range of different clients. Rachael also volunteered some mornings during university massaging the players from Leigh Leopards rugby league team.
Rachael always enjoyed sports from a young age, taking up martial arts for 13 years and reaching 3rd dan rank. This enjoyment of sport led to watching a range of sports from a young age. This developed her interest in sport biomechanics, which ultimately led her down the path of sports therapy.
Stuart graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University in July 2022 with a first class honours degree in Physiotherapy.
Since graduating he has worked in the NHS, in musculoskeletal and elderly care roles. Stuart has a wide range of sports interests at an amateur level and is a keen skier and is developing a passion for cycling.
Stuart made a career change into physiotherapy after facing some personal health problems and realising his passion for helping people achieve their best.
He developed an interest in weightlifting after an illness and was a former patient at AK. He is proud to say, “Perhaps the best testimonial for AK Physio and Sports Injury Clinic is that I was inspired to go into physiotherapy by coming to see Abi as a patient. She helped me not just to rehabilitate but to understand basic anatomy and how the exercises benefitted me and my personal goals. Having the chance to join the team now and do the same for others really inspires me”.
Stuart has since attained a sports massage and kinesiology taping qualification to underpin his physiotherapy skills and experience.
Madeline joined the team in 2010. She was made redundant from her previous role, which she had held for 25 years, and joined the Clinic as an Office Administrator. She has a background in wages and accounts and helps with the bookings, admin and accounts functions within the clinic. When not working she can usually be found on the golf course or helping out with her grandchildren. She liaises with all the team but in particular with the Clinic Director, Abi, who happens to be her daughter.
